Should I Use a Conformal Coating Machine?

Depending on your application, choosing to use conformal coating equipment can be a very wise choice for maximum efficiency.  I would recommend use of the conformal coating process decision worksheet to determine your coating needs and whether you should outsource conformal coating prior to purchasing a machine.

To use a spray robot such as the MACCS 400 is a wise choice if the circuit board design will remain the same in a high volume application.  Because of the long programming time, it may not be cost effective to buy and program a spray robot if you have a low to medium volume or a high mix program.

Another option is to use a conformal coating dip machine such as the DS101 or DS102.  Dipping is a great way to do medium to high volume runs.  Masking becomes more critical as your circuit boards are submerged in the coating.

Depending on the volume of boards or criticalness of timing, another possibility is addition of an inline system.  Inline machines should be considered with high volume, low complexity applications.  Whether it is an inline spray or dip machine, these machines are built with maximum efficiency in mind to make sure that the conformal coating process can keep pace with production.
